JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - An investigation is underway after human remains were found at a construction site in Jacksonville on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office..
Crews who were bulldozing at the site of a new overpass spotted the bones on Tuesday afternoon, Sgt. Steve Rudlaff told news outlets.
He said investigators will now search the site and another site where loads of fill dirt used in the area came from to see if they can find other bones, he said.
The medical examiner’s office was called to the scene and verified that the bones were human, the Florida Times-Union reported.
It could take a week to find any further remains, Rudlaff said.
“Hopefully we will get some DNA evidence on those. However this is going to be a lengthy process,” Rudlaff said. “We will have to go through a period of digging.”
The newspaper reported that no clothing or identification were found with the remains.
