CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago woman faces child endangerment charges stemming from a shooting in which a 7-year-old girl accidentally shot her 11-year-old brother in the neck.
Lucreshia Curtis, 39, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, Chicago police said Tuesday. It wasn’t immediately clear if Curtis, who’s scheduled to appear in court March 20, has an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
Police said that on Feb. 14 two young siblings somehow gained access to a gun in a West Side home. The girl, 7, was handling the weapon when it went off, striking her 11-year-old brother in the neck.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.
Curtis was arrested the following day in connection with the boy’s shooting, which occurred during a weekend when 10 other children were wounded in shootings across Chicago.
