FIELDALE, Va. (AP) - A pregnant Virginia woman lost her baby after she was shot in the face, and a man has been charged in the incident, a sheriff’s office said.
Krystal Anne McReynolds, 34, of Bassett was shot at least once in the face, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded about 9:50 p.m. Tuesday to a home in Fieldale and found McReynolds. She was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators discovered that McReynolds was pregnant when she was shot, and said the unborn child died. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies arrested Thomas Christopher Mcdowell, 35, of Fieldale and charged him with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is being held without bail in the Henry County jail, and it couldn’t be determined on Wednesday if he had an attorney.
