ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A Florida man accused of fatally shooting a former Under Armour coworker at a Florida mall has been found dead from an apparent suicide, authorities said.
A jogger found Daniel Everett’s SUV in Fort Pierce and contacted local police, Orlando police Chief Orlando Rolón said during a news conference. Officers responded and found the body in the vehicle. Fort Pierce is located on Florida’s Atlantic coast, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Orlando.
Everett, 46, likely arrived in Fort Pierce days ago and may have killed himself a short time later, Orlando Detective Teresa Sprague said Friday. Several law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, had been searching for him.
Everett was fired Monday morning from an Under Armour store at Orlando International Premium Outlets. Investigators haven’t said what prompted the firing. Police said he returned that evening and killed store manager Eunice Marie Vazquez, 37.
Investigators believe he specifically targeted the woman and may have been planning to kill another employee who was on a break and not in the store, Rolón said. About a dozen customers were in the store at the time of the shooting, and officials said no injuries were reported by anyone else at the mall.
After the shooting, detectives learned that Everett created a list of other employees who police believed were potential targets. Rolón said law enforcement immediately contacted those workers to make sure they were safe. They were told to stay at places that weren’t listed in their personnel files.
Under Armour management was working with police, Rolón said. The Baltimore-based company has closed all eight of its Orlando-area stores since the shooting.
