MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A member of the Vermont House has resigned due to the responsibilities of his job outside of the Legislature.
Rep. Matt Trieber, D-Rockingham, announced his resignation this week. Trieber said his responsibilities as a youth counselor for disabled students served by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation made it impossible for him to continue his legislative duties, the Brattleboro Reformer reported.
He has previously worked part time for the state, but starting working full time last summer. State employees can serve in the Legislature, but they must take an unpaid leave of absence during the legislative session, he said.
Former Gov. Peter Shumlin had appointed Trieber to the House, to replace Rep. Michael Obuchowski, D-Rockingham, who was selected to serve in Shumlin’s administration. Trieber was re-elected four times.
