RENO, Nev. (AP) - A city manager in Nevada has announced she is stepping down from her position effective in July.

Reno City Manager Sabra Newby sent a resignation letter Wednesday to the Reno City Council and city staff.

“These letters are never particularly easy, but I am writing to let you know that my family and I have made the difficult decision to move back to Southern Nevada this summer. The City of Reno has been a wonderfully welcoming community for us, but we ultimately wish to return to Southern Nevada to be closer to family and friends,” she said in the letter.

Her last day with the city is scheduled for July 3.

“I am committed to helping the city of Reno through this transitional period to securing a new city manager. With that in mind, I have chosen to give this notice far in advance of my last day, which will be July 3, 2020. Again, thank you for your faith in me and the opportunity to serve this amazing community,” she said.

Newby was hired by City Council in an unanimous vote in 2017.

She previously was the Clark County Assistant County Manager and has worked in government and around Las Vegas for more than 15 years.
