Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer said Thursday the Houston Astros owe the sport’s fans a full explanation about their sign-stealing scheme throughout the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Scherzer and other Nationals fielded questions related to the Astros’ conduct on the first day of spring training at their facility in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“They crossed the moral line and cheated,” Scherzer said. “But they got to answer to it. It’s not really for us to speak for them. They need to speak for themselves. They need to talk to the fans of baseball and explain what happened.”

Nationals pitcher Patrick Corbin said Washington changed their signs out of precaution throughout the 2019 World Series because of the Astros’ reputation within the sport.
