MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee man was expected in court Monday after police said he was driving under the influence with a baby in his car when he hit and killed a man.

Semarcus Carter, 25, stayed on the scene after the crash and was found with a strong smell of alcohol, glossy eyes and slurred speech, news outlets reported citing an affidavit.

Maurice Dickerson was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash Saturday night in Memphis, police said.

Carter admitted to drinking hours before the collision, according to news outlets. He was driving the vehicle with his 8-month-old son and another passenger in the car, police said.

Jail records showed Carter was in custody of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. He was charged with driving under the influence, vehicular homicide, child endangerment and no insurance. It was unclear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
