DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A former Iowa newspaper reporter and his wife left a $3 million estate for local causes, the Quad-City Times reported Saturday.
A former reporter for the paper, John Willard, and his wife, Carol, donated the estate to the Quad-Cities Community Foundation.
Willard, of Davenport, worked for the paper for more than three decades and died in 2017. His wife died in July.
Interest from the $3 million estate will be divided evenly between nine organizations each year. The foundation’s President and CEO Sherry Ristau said that’s about $15,000 per organization based on current interest rates.
Organizations that will benefit from the estate include a local public library, a local Humane Society and the Iowa PBS Foundation.
