OPINION:
“After me, the deluge” was an egotistical and meaningless boast by Charles De Gaulle — but it is the pure truth where President Trump is concerned. The novel coronavirus plus the wavering commitment to our Constitution have exposed for all to see the appalling quality of leadership in Democrat-controlled cities, in Congress and in the judiciary.
Common sense and logic are out the window and lust for power and control, a la communist China, are in. Our time-tested stabilizer, the Constitution, is disregarded with impunity, even in the Supreme Count. Socialism, according to Lenin himself, is the step before communism. Those who fear it may not realize that it is already here. We have lost freedom of speech (the wrong remark can cost you your job), freedom of assembly (lockdowns dictate how many people you can have in your own home), freedom to worship (churches are shut down but abortion clinics are open), freedom from fear (don’t even try wearing a “MAGA” hat). There is pervasive censorship in the mainstream media (see Hunter Biden’s laptop contents). There is catastrophic misery caused by the closing of bars, restaurants and other businesses (unless frequented by those in power). There is no law or order; truth has become heresy.
Congress passed a bill no one read, giving huge amounts of money to foreign countries and obscure research projects while our businesses close and our people remain unable to pay their bills. Consequently our savings are devalued daily. On politicians’ list of priorities, Americans come last.
We have been betrayed by our Congress and our judiciary. But President Trump has never let us down.
Unless Republican legislators and electors find the honor, strength and backbone on Jan. 6 to restore integrity to our presidential election, this deluge will be irreversible.
