BRUNSWICK, Maine (AP) - An inn that dates to 1819 and was formerly known as The Captain Daniel Stone Inn will remain a hotel and restaurant under new ownership.

The new owners initially planned to convert the Brunswick establishment into elder housing but “decided an upscale hotel is the best fit,” Jennifer Davies, broker for the buyers and an executive at Portland’s Compass Commercial Brokers, told the Times Record.

A name or opening date for the hotel has not been announced.

Bella Point Holdings LLC outbid four others at an auction in September and the $1.6 million sale closed on Nov. 20. Roughly $80,000 in back taxes have been repaid.

The Daniel was previously known as The Captain Daniel Stone Inn and dates back to 1819.
