Washington released quarterback Dwayne Haskins on Monday, a day after the 2019 first-rounder was benched in a 20-13 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Haskins’ release ends a tumultuous tenure in which the signal-caller failed to prove he could lead the franchise. Last week, he was caught partying indoors without a mask and was fined $40,000 as part of his punishment.

“This afternoon I met with Dwayne and informed him that we could be releasing him,” coach Ron Rivera said in a statement. “I told him that I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways. We want to thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two seasons and wish him well moving forward.”
