Washington will now play the Philadelphia Eagles on “Sunday Night Football” next week after the NFL flexed the game Sunday evening to primetime.

The contest had previously been scheduled for 1 p.m. But the league moved the matchup given the high stakes for Washington. If the team wins, Washington (6-9) will make the playoffs. Lose, and they’re out.

That do-or-die scenario makes for compelling television, and now Washington will get its first primetime game of the year. The team was shut out of playing nigh games when the NFL released its schedule earlier this year, though the team was featured on Thanksgiving.

Kickoff will be 8:20 p.m.

If Washington loses, the winner of next week’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants will win the NFC East.

The Eagles cannot win the division after being eliminated by the Cowboys on Sunday.
