ASHBURN — The Washington Football Team stripped Dwayne Haskins of his captainship as part of the quarterback’s punishment related to an incident in which he was caught partying indoors at a club without a mask with a group of women. The team also fined Haskins, coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday.
Haskins received clearance from the NFL to practice with Washington on Wednesday under a pre-approved plan. The 23-year-old took first-team reps with starter Alex Smith (calf) a limited participant.
The team opted not to suspend Haskins. Rivera said Haskins was forthright about the incident and noted the 2019 first-rounder apologized, including in front of the team.
On Monday, Washington became aware of social media posts that showed Haskins partying with a group of women after Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
According to the NFL Network, Haskins was fined $40,000 over the incident.
