The last time the New England Patriots missed the playoffs, the top song on Billboard’s year-end top-100 list was “Low” by Flo Rida and T-Pain.

That was 2008, when Tom Brady tore his ACL in the season opener and missed the remainder of the campaign. Now with the quarterback a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots have missed the playoffs for the second time since 2003.

The Miami Dolphins and rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa ended New England’s 11-year streak with a 22-12 win Sunday. Tagovailoa threw for 145 yards and an interception, and he ran in two touchdowns — both in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Meanwhile, the Patriots couldn’t find the end zone Sunday. Cam Newton finished with 209 yards on 17-for-27 passing, continuing a pedestrian season. New England’s streak of 19 straight winning seasons also ended; the team will have to win its last two games — against the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets — to avoid a losing season.

So, how are the Patriots feeling? As T-Pain might say, in an auto-tuned voice on the biggest song from 2008: “low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low.”
