A man accused of trying to kill his mother in South Carolina has been arrested in Oregon.

James Shawn Nichol, 48, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from Horry County police, Oregon State Police told The Myrtle Beach Sun.

Authorities said troopers stopped a stolen vehicle at the Baker Valley Rest Area along Interstate 84 and arrested Nichol without incident.

He’s accused of stealing his mother’s car after trying to kill her, police said.

It was not immediately clear whether Nichol had an attorney who could speak for him.

James Shawn Nichol, 48, of Myrtle Beach, was wanted by Horry County police on an attempted murder charge and was arrested Thursday in Oregon, according to the Oregon State Police.

Police found Nichol in a stolen vehicle at the Baker Valley Rest Area along I-84 in Oregon, according to the state police. Troopers stopped his car and arrested him without incident.

Police say that Nichols tried to kill his mom and stole her car in the Myrtle Beach area.
