After Alex Smith met with trainers Monday, Washington is reportedly optimistic the quarterback can play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Smith exited Washington’s 23-15 win over the San Francisco 49ers over the weekend in the first half with a calf strain. Coach Ron Rivera said Smith could have come back in an emergency, though added the injury was affecting his ability to throw.
The NFL Network reported Tuesday that Washington “feels pretty good” about Smith’s chances to play. The 36-year-old will be likely limited for practice this week, the report added.

Smith’s injury is to his right calf, the same leg that underwent 17 surgeries.
If Smith can’t play, Dwayne Haskins will be the starter.
