LAS VEGAS (AP) - The elected body with jurisdiction over the Las Vegas Strip has signed off on a Democratic former Nevada secretary of state’s 15-vote electoral victory over a veteran Republican Las Vegas City Council member.
Ross Miller’s narrow win over Stavros Anthony was certified Tuesday by the Clark County Commission, all Democrats, after a recount last week that Anthony paid for expanded the winning margin from 10 to 15 votes.
Anthony previously called for a revote, and his campaign promised to contest the result of the Nov. 3 election to the Nevada Supreme Court, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported .
Anthony already is involved in a legal case that Miller filed Nov. 17 in state court after the commission postponed certifying the election result.
The commission delay came after elections chief Joe Gloria reported Nov. 16 that Miller received just 10 more votes than Anthony. Gloria also reported finding 139 incurable ballot “discrepancies” among more than 153,000 ballots cast, including inadvertently canceled votes and voter check-in errors at polling places.
Clark County includes three of Nevada’s four most populous cities, including Las Vegas.
Miller is due to be seated to replace term-limited Commissioner Larry Brown on the powerful seven-member panel that, unlike the state Legislature, meets year-round.
