Congress could name Georgia post office for late Sen. Hill

REIDSVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Congress has taken a step toward naming a post office in southeast Georgia for the late state Sen. Jack Hill.

The U.S. House unanimously approved a resolution Thursday by Republican Rep. Buddy Carter to put Hill’s name on the post office building in Hill’s hometown of Reidsville. The measure now goes to the Senate.

Hill spent nearly 30 years in the Georgia Senate and served as chairman of the budget-writing Appropriations Committee. He died in April at age 75.

Carter served with Hill in the state legislature before being elected to Congress.

“He was a close friend and mentor to me, and a brilliant servant of the people,” Carter said in a news release. “He fought for his community each and every day, and he deserves this honor.”
