LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Veteran journalist Rick Green will step down as editor of the Courier Journal months after the Kentucky newspaper won a Pulitzer Prize under his leadership.
The newspaper reports Green is taking a buyout offered by Gannett, the Courier Journal’s parent company. He was named editor in May 2018 and the paper won a Pulitzer Prize in May for its coverage of controversial pardons by former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin.
Green called the position the highlight of his 33-year career with Gannett.
“No one will ever know how much I have enjoyed serving as editor of The Courier Journal,” Green said. “I am so grateful for a talented team that has worked tirelessly to meet the appropriately high expectations of readers across Kentucky. I am so proud of their commitment, their passion and their pursuit of meaningful stories.”
