HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The Frontier Conference is moving its volleyball schedule to the spring, the league’s Council of Presidents announced Friday, while reaffirming plans for its NAIA schools in Montana to play football this fall.
Moving volleyball to the spring will accommodate all the schools and match up with the NAIA volleyball championships, which have been moved to the spring, conference commissioner Kent Paulson said. The University of Providence in Great Falls has announced it is beginning its fall semester online.
The league’s five football teams in Montana are still planning to play an eight-game, round-robin schedule this fall. Practice is scheduled to start on Aug. 15, with the first games being delayed to Sept. 19, the league said.
The announcement came on the same day the Big Sky Conference, which includes Montana and Montana State, announced it was moving its Football Championship Subdivision schedule to the spring.
The Frontier Conference will continue to closely monitor and adjust as necessary to protect the health and safety of all involved in athletic programs, league officials said.
Three other schools that play football in the Frontier Conference - the College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon - have already moved their football seasons to the spring.
The NAIA football championships have been moved to the spring, and the top teams in the Frontier Conference plan to participate in the playoffs at that time, Paulson said.
