BALTIMORE, Md. (AP) - Health officials in Baltimore said a nightclub was shut down after it was found in violation of coronavirus safety regulations, making it the first time an establishment in the city was ordered to close for violations.
The decision came after a video posted on Instagram showed a large day party outside Euphoria Nightclub on Sunday, The Baltimore Sun reported. In addition, officials have received more than 300 complaints about the establishment, Adam Abadir, a spokesperson for the city’s Health department, told The Baltimore Sun.
“Events like those depicted on social media at Euphoria are exactly the type of ‘super-spreader’ events that have led to dozens of cases around the country,” Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa said in a statement Monday. “The activities depicted on social media - lack of face coverings, lack of social distancing, large groups of people closely congregating - present clear risk to the patrons and staff at the establishment.”
Baltimore City Councilman Zeke Cohen said the nightclub was also found in violation of social distancing regulations last month, the newspaper reported. Abadir said the nightclub was previously asked to enforce the regulation.
Euphoria Nightclub did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The Associated Press.
