JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A 6-year-old girl who was on a trip to visit the Jackson Zoo with her mother and another man has been hospitalized for gunshot wounds after she and her mother were shot inside a hotel room by the man.

Jackson Police Department Spokesman Sam Brown said the early Sunday shooting in Jackson was a result of a domestic dispute between the girl’s mother, Marlanque Braggs, and Myles Perkins, the Clarion Ledger reported.

The three had traveled from north Mississippi to Jackson for the zoo visit, according to police.

Braggs, 19, was shot in the shoulder at the hotel, a Holiday Inn Express & Suites. After shooting her and her daughter, Perkins, 26, killed himself with a gunshot to the head, police said.

Police had no information on the conditions of the girl and her mother, the newspaper reported.
