PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. (AP) - Two people were killed when a small plane crashed Friday into a Florida public storage building, officials said.
The twin-engine Aero Commander crashed around 9 a.m. in Pembroke Park, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said in an email. The area is just south of Fort Lauderdale.
Rescue workers from Broward County and the city of Hollywood responded, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office news release. Two people were located in the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Their names weren’t immediately released, pending confirmation by the medical examiner’s office.
Preliminary information shows the plane left Pompano Beach and was heading south to Opa Locka, the sheriff’s office said.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
