WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s Canada goose hunting season is coming up next month to help control the state’s population before geese migrating south arrive.

The season is open statewide from Sept. 1 through Sept. 25. Hunters are limited to taking five Canada geese in the Connecticut River Valley and eight in the rest of the state daily, according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.

A second Canada goose hunting will be held Oct. 10 through Nov 8 in the Lake Champlain and Interior Vermont Zones. In the Connecticut River Zone, additional seasons take place Oct. 6-Nov 8 and Nov. 17-Dec. 12.

Hunters are required to have a hunting license and waterfowl hunters aged 16 and older must carry current federal and Vermont duck stamps.
