OPINION:
Democrats were supposed to gather in my home state of Wisconsin this week. Instead, they held a virtual national convention. Here are my observations.
Theme: It seems that the unconscious idea of the DNC Convention is feelings over facts. And the press seems to play along with them. Unfortunately for Democrats, facts do not care about your feelings.
Joe Biden: He wants to be president so bad that he has outsourced his agenda to the radical left, giving control to Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others in return for their support.
Democrats are keeping Mr. Biden in his basement or close to home. Their strategy seems to keep the attention, with the help of many willing partners in the press, on President Trump and away from the former vice president.
Kamala Harris: The story of her parents personifies the American dream. Too bad she and many other liberals support policies that make it harder to live that dream in America. According to Newsweek, Sen. Harris’ voting record is more liberal than that of Mr. Sanders. That means that Mr. Biden’s running mate is to the left of a self-proclaimed socialist.
Not surprisingly, Ms. Harris did not repeat that she believed Mr. Biden’s accusers as she had earlier in the campaign. She also did not express her outrage with Mr. Biden for his authorship of a bill in the Senate to block busing for school desegregation that she benefited from as a child.
Disagreements on technical issues are one thing, but these seem to be moral issues. Her response: “It was a debate.” Does that mean we should not believe her when she goes face-to-face with Vice President Mike Pence?
Barack Obama: The former president gave another stellar performance. Yet, if Mr. Biden is such a great leader, why did President Obama actively push Hillary Clinton to run long before the 2016 election? And if Mr. Biden was a great vice president, why wouldn’t his former president endorse him early instead of waiting until the end? An honest answer to each question tells you that Mr. Biden should not be elected in 2020.
Bernie Sanders: The Vermont senator won the best summary of the convention when he said, “Many of the ideas we fought for, that just a few years ago were considered ’radical,’ are now mainstream.” They may be considered mainstream at Mr. Biden’s convention, but they are neither in Wisconsin nor in most parts of our country.
Most Americans do not want to lose their private health insurance coverage, and they do not want the federal government to take over their health care. One of the co-sponsors of Mr. Sanders’ radical bill is Ms. Harris.
Bill Clinton: Excuse me, but Bill Clinton should not be lecturing anyone about chaos in the Oval Office. Talk about being tone-deaf.
Hillary Clinton: Did she speak?
Andrew Cuomo: Mr. Biden and the Democrats are trying to make the election about our health and coronavirus. They made a vast mistake featuring the governor of New York on the first night. Mr. Cuomo’s orders sent sick people who were positive with coronavirus to nursing homes where, according to the Associated Press, thousands of people got infected and died.
No other states have a higher death rate per 100,000 than New York and New Jersey. This is a classic case of feelings over facts as the media liked Mr. Cuomo’s briefings, but the facts show total failure. Still, Mr. Biden featured him as an example of leadership.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: The first-term member of Congress got a moment of the limelight. Her plan would cost tens of thousands of manufacturing and agricultural jobs in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Post office: Earlier this week, I was on my Harley-Davidson motorcycle riding to a Bikers for Trump event (unlike the Democrats, we were safely out and about in Wisconsin). On the way over, I saw five different U.S. Postal Service trucks delivering the mail.
In my opinion, the left is trying to create a fake postal controversy in hopes that worried people will vote for mail before the first debate. They don’t want voters to see how bad Mr. Biden’s responses are now nor see him have to defend his radical agenda.
Hard-working taxpayers: During the primaries, Mr. Biden promised to repeal the tax relief given to nearly every American in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Interestingly, there was no mention of Mr. Biden’s roughly $4 trillion tax-increase plan during the speeches at the convention.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin: Kamala Harris spoke from a convention center in Wilmington, Delaware. Why couldn’t she have appeared in Milwaukee, where the convention was supposed to be?
If it was all about health, shouldn’t she have spoken from her home in California? Sadly, Democrats invoke “health” when it is convenient. And sadly, most in the media give them a pass.
