O.J. Simpson took issue Tuesday with President Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” arguing the country was already great in the decades before he entered office.
“I think ’Make America Great’ is great. It’s the ’Again’ that bothers me. That has a lot of different connotations,” Mr. Simpson said in a video he shared on Twitter.
The 73-year-old former football star and convicted felon subsequently proceeded to list all the presidents he lived through prior to Mr. Trump, beginning with Harry S. Truman.
“Through all those presidents, America was great. We were the number one nation there is. All of these politicians today, they’re standing on the shoulders of the giants who ran this country before them,” Mr. Simpson said in the video.
“You can’t start on third base and then take credit for hitting a home run,” Mr. Simpson added.
Acquitted of double murder in 1995, the ill-famed former athlete and actor later served nearly nine years in prison for charges related to a 2007 armed robbery in Las Vegas.
Mr. Simpson was released from prison in late 2017 and joined Twitter in June 2019. More than 930,000 other accounts currently follow his profile on the social media service.
In his latest post on the platform, Mr. Simpson also recommended watching the Democratic and Republican national conventions and repeatedly encouraged voting in November’s election.
“If you don’t vote, you don’t have the right to complain when this is all over,” he said.
