EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - The New York Giants have released placekicker Chandler Catanzaro.
Coach Joe Judge announced the move on Monday, just 16 days after the team hired the veteran following the release of incumbent Aldrick Rosas.
New York is in talks with Graham Gano, who hit a career-long 63-yard field goal with :01 to play to help the Panthers beat the Giants 33-31 in 2018.
“I appreciate what Chandler did for us. I have a lot of respect for him,” Judge said after practice. “We’re not going into all the details in terms of the exact move until things are finalized,” Judge said.
Judge did not say why he cut Catanzaro, who came out of retirement to sign.
“We were lucky enough to have exposure to him for a small window of the season, and I wish him luck along the way,” Judge said.
Gano, who missed last season with an injury, had hit 82.1% of his field-goal attempts during his career with Washington and Carolina. He made the Pro Bowl in 2017. He was released by the Panthers last month.
The Giants also signed former Ravens defensive tackle Daylon Mack. He played in one game with Baltimore last season.
