Massachusetts Environmental Police are investigating a lieutenant accused of using an unauthorized body camera to record videos that were later posted to Facebook.
The agency, which has 85 officers, enforces fishing, hunting, boating, and recreational vehicle laws. The Boston Globe reports that union officials learned of the matter a few days ago and quickly notified management. A spokeswoman for the agency confirmed the internal investigation but declined to answer specific questions.
Sgt. Thomas Conners, the union president, declined to name the lieutenant but says other officers are concerned about the release of their personal information as well as sensitive information about investigations.
Peter Elikann, a Boston-based criminal defense attorney, said if the lieutenant didn’t turn the footage over for court proceedings, it could amount to obstruction of justice.
