ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - A pedestrian who was more than eight months pregnant was struck and killed by a car in Southern California, but her baby survived, authorities said.
Yesenia Lisette Aguilar, 23, of Anaheim was walking on a sidewalk with her husband in Anaheim Tuesday evening when a Jeep SUV jumped the curb, drove along the sidewalk for about 300 feet and struck her, police said.
The driver, 40-year-old Courtney Pandolfi of Garden Grove, was treated for minor injuries and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, vehicular manslaughter and driving on a suspended license, KABC-TV reported.
She was being held on $1 million bail, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s Department website.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether she had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.
The victim’s husband attempted CPR before his wife was taken to a hospital, where she died, Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer said.
The baby was hospitalized in critical condition in a neonatal intensive care unit.
