Tom Brady officially left the New England Patriots last month, but the quarterback admitted Wednesday that he had a feeling his tenure with the franchise was coming to an end before that.
The six-time Super Bowl champion told Howard Stern that he went into the 2019 season with an idea it would be his last year with the Patriots.
“I don’t think there was a final, final decision until it happened, but I probably knew before the start of last season — that it was my last year,” Brady said. “Our time was coming to an end.”
After the season, Brady left to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a two-year, $50 million deal.
Brady said he doesn’t hold any hard feelings toward coach Bill Belichick and is grateful for his time in the area. He added he was in tears saying goodbye to owner Robert Kraft and Belichick.
In Brady’s last season with New England, the Patriots went 11-5, but suffered a first-round exit in the AFC Wild Card to the Tennessee Titans.
