MARSHALL COUNTY, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi authorities said an officer is being hospitalized after being run over by two suspects in a stolen car.

It happened Monday when the K-9 officer was attempting to lay spike stripes on a road to stop a vehicle that was being pursued by a deputy, Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson told The Clarion Ledger.

Dickerson said the officer partially went under the car and got hit around the waist and back.

The suspect, Robert Darnell Watkins, was arrested on scene and charged with attempted murder, WMCTV reported. The passenger riding with Watkins, 36, has not been charged with a crime.

Dickerson said his office does not know the present conditions of the officer. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.
