OPINION:
Christian evangelist Franklin Graham, during an appearance with Judge Jeanine Pirro on Fox News, responded to a question about “why” — why God would let the coronavirus crisis occur — with this brief explanation: “This is a result of a fallen world.”
And he’s right, of course. All human troubles hearken back to Original Sin, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden.
But Graham will be mocked and scorned for saying so, just the same.
He said, as Breitbart reported: “I don’t think God planned for this to happen.”
He said: “It’s because of the sin that’s in the world.”
He said: “Man has turned his back on God. We have sinned against Him and we need to ask for God’s forgiveness.”
And he said: “This pandemic — this is a result of a fallen world, a world that has turned its back on God.”
Yes. But to add to that: The utter shutdown of economies that has come from this virus is also the result of hysterical out-of-context reporting by members of the media; of partisan hitmen and hitwomen on the left using the crisis to further political goals; of globalist forces who hate America and see a chance for mass redistribution of wealth and an opportunity to take the world’s largest economy down a peg — or few; of computer modeling that’s maybe accurate, maybe not, probably only as accurate as those used by climate alarmists; and of arrogant medical professionals, or single-minded health officials, who think their opinions should take precedence over all other concerns — it’s all that and more coming together in a hurricane of frightful predictions that fuel citizen panic and cause mass mayhem.
Which is to say: Graham is right.
Cut through the clutter. Sum it up simply.
It’s because of the sins of the world. He’s also right about this: “Let’s ask God for help.”
That’s not just Christian. That’s American. The Founders themselves, in times of trouble, turned to God in prayer, in repentance, in humble petition, and asked for God to help.
