GUTHRIE, Okla. (AP) - A man and a woman were hospitalized and another man is in police custody after an argument erupted in gunfire Thursday in the parking lot of an Oklahoma Walmart.
The shooting happened around 2 p.m. at a Walmart in Guthrie, about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City. The man who fired the gun was in a pickup with the woman when he got into an argument with a man in the parking lot, police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs said. The man in the truck, in reaching for a gun, accidentally shot the woman. He then shot the other man, Gibbs said.
The wounded woman made it to a nearby fire station, and she was flown to a hospital with an abdominal wound that could be life-threatening, Fire/EMS Chief Eric Harlow said. Police said the man was taken by ambulance with a back wound that Harlow said was not life-threatening.
No identities or motives have been released.
A spate of shootings have happened at Walmarts around the U.S. in the past year. Three people were killed in November in a murder-suicide in a store parking lot in Duncan, Oklahoma. The deadliest was in El Paso, Texas, where 23 people died after a gunman targeting Latinos opened fire in a store.
