Tom Brady hasn’t lived in Florida for very long — he’s crashing in Derek Jeter’s mansion now, weeks after signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — but he’s already made a splash in Tampa.

During a press conference Monday, Tampa mayor Jane Castor said a city employee encountered Brady working out in a park that was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing measures.

“Our parks are closed down, so a lot of our parks staff, they patrol around just to make sure people aren’t in there with contact sports and things,” Castor said. “She went over to tell him that it was closed, and it was Tom Brady.”

There was some confusion later in the day because the mayor added, “Well, there you go! He has been sighted!”

Some thought she meant Brady was cited — as in, given a citation or warning for disobeying social distancing orders.

But a statement Monday evening clarified that was not the case.

“We are excited to welcome Tom & everyone back to all of our parks once we have punted COVID-19 downfield,” a tweet from the city’s account said.

After winning a record six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, Brady left in free agency and signed a two-year, $50 million deal with the Buccaneers.
