All throughout the offseason, the Washington Redskins and new coach Ron Rivera have been questioned whether they’re truly committed to Dwayne Haskins. But could it actually be another NFC East team that is souring on its young quarterback?
The NFL Network reported Monday that the New York Giants have spent “a lot of time” researching Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert as they prepare to pick fourth in this week’s draft — despite drafting first-rounder Daniel Jones in 2019.
Like the Redskins, the Giants hired a new coach this offseason and so far, coach Joe Judge has been tight-lipped about what he thinks of the quarterback.
The NFL Network reported the Giants have had FaceTime conversations with Herbert, as well.

Still, it’s easy to think this could be part of a last-minute smokescreen. The Giants have reportedly been willing to trade down from No. 4, so perhaps New York is trying to bait a team to trade up for Herbert.
And unlike Washington, the Giants did not reorganize their front office this offseason — general manager Dave Gettleman is still in charge. Would he really be willing to move on from Jones, the sixth overall pick in 2019, so soon?
Most mock drafts have the Giants taking either a tackle like Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs or Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons.
