LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico man is facing charges after police say he teased officers about having a gun.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports Asher Madrid was arrested earlier this month following a domestic violence call in Las Cruces.

Court documents say the 37-year-old Madrid asked an officer to run his name through central dispatch to check if he had felony warrants.

Documents say Madrid asked the officer what would happen if he had felonies and was also in possession of a gun. The officer then asked Madrid if he had a gun on him. Madrid allegedly responded that he did not this time, but would the next time he had an encounter with police.

As officers were walking away, court documents say Madrid threw his hand behind his back.

Court documents state the officers on the scene then drew their guns on Madrid, who was searched to make sure he didn’t have any weapons.

Madrid was charged with three counts of battery on a peace officer. It was not known if he had an attorney.
