Rush Limbaugh believes President Trump is one of the few people capable of successfully taking his place, the longtime syndicated right-wing radio show host said Wednesday.

Mr. Limbaugh acknowledged as much while reacting to a report published Wednesday by The New York Times about Mr. Trump allegedly wanting to launch a White House radio show.

Mr. Trump “envisioned a show running two hours a day” and “would do it were it not for the risk of encroaching on Rush Limbaugh,” The Times reported.

“He didn’t want to compete. This is an amazing story,” Mr. Limbaugh said after reading an excerpt from the Times article during his latest radio broadcast.

“But you know what it indicates is, what this story does indicate? That probably Donald Trump is one of the few who could fill my shoes. With proper training and proper instruction, I could see that,” he said.

A transcript of Mr. Limbaugh’s latest comments were uploaded to his website afterward under the headline: “Donald Trump Probably Is the Only Person Who Could Fill My Shoes.”

Mr. Trump has regularly praised Mr. Limbaugh, 69, and in February he awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

Lately the two talk on the phone around once per week, the host of “The Rush Limbaugh Show” said recently.
