Utility workers in Maine have reduced the number of customers in the dark to just a handful as they continue their mop-up operations.

Central Maine Power and Emera Maine together had fewer than 4,000 homes and businesses without electricity as of Wednesday morning. Some of those were isolated camps that may not be occupied.

It has been a long slog for utility workers since a snowstorm late last week knocked out power to more than a quarter million customers. A wind storm on Monday added to the count.

Crews continued their final mop-up on Wednesday, working to restore power to the final customers.
