FORSYTH, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia man led authorities on a high-speed chase that ended when the man rear-ending a patrol car and injured two state troopers, officials said.

Furquan Muhammad was arrested Saturday on several charges including, felony fleeing, possession of a gun, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, news outlets reported.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anna Lewis said a deputy pulled Muhammad over on Interstate 75 for not having a license plate.

Lewis said the deputy smelled marijuana and asked Muhammad to get out of the car, but Muhammad fled.

Georgia State Patrol joined in on the high-speed chase, which ended when Muhammad hit the back of a trooper’s patrol car. Several patrol cars and Muhammad’s car were damaged, authorities said.

Four children were inside Muhammad’s car, ranging in age from nine-weeks-old to 15-years-old, troopers said. The children and Muhammad were unharmed. Two troopers were hospitalized and later released.

Lewis said deputies found 10 ounces of marijuana, Xanax pills, a gun and around $2,000 in cash in Muhammad’s car.

It’s unclear whether Muhammad had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
