BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect accused of hiding a makeshift explosive device underneath a Georgia woman’s car and dousing the vehicle in gasoline, police said.
Brunswick police and a Georgia Bureau of Investigation bomb squad were called to a neighborhood Sunday morning when a woman spotted a suspicious package underneath her car and noticed gasoline on the vehicle, The Brunswick News quoted police Chief Kevin Jones as saying.
The squad used a robot to retrieve the firebomb, which was made out of a firework that was at least 4 inches (102 millimeters) in diameter, Jones said. Investigators also found another large firework, a bag of smaller fireworks and a bottle of accelerant beneath the car, according to officials.
Police did not name the suspect but said they think it was a man who recently stayed at the victim’s house before being told to leave.
Authorities said the man may have escaped to Florida. Police said the suspect could face a charge of attempting to commit arson.
