WILBERFORCE, Ohio (AP) - The first female president of Central State University in Ohio will step down at the end of the school year.
The Dayton Daily News reports Cynthia Jackson-Hammond announced Thursday she will resign after eight years as president of the historically black school in Wilberforce.
Board of Trustees chairman Mark Hatcher says Jackson-Hammond’s tenure “has undoubtedly marked a period of growth and prosperity for our University.”
The school under Jackson-Hammond’s watch has improved its struggling finances and has begun to reverse a drop in enrollment.
A statement says the school will appoint a committee to conduct a national search for her replacement. A final candidate is expected to be chosen sometime early next year.
