The Washington Redskins will make Adrian Peterson inactive for their Week 1 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, and NFL Network reported that Peterson isn’t the only Redskin unhappy with the news.

“The bad news, I can tell you that several veterans inside that locker room, according to sources, were not happy with this decision,” NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Sunday morning. “They’re saying, ’How could you do that to a guy that bailed us out last year and ran for 1,000 yards?’”

Earlier in the week, Peterson told reporters that “at the end of the day, I’m pleased to do what they ask me to do. That’s all I can do.”

Coach Jay Gruden said Derrius Guice was prepared to receive “the mother load” of Washington’s carries. Guice is making his NFL debut Sunday after missing his entire rookie season with a torn ACL.

Peterson, now 34, was signed last year to take over Guice’s spot after that injury, and he quickly became the featured back and finished the year with 1,042 rushing yards, eighth-most in the NFL.

The other Washington running backs likely to be active Sunday are Chris Thompson and former Eagle Wendell Smallwood, who can contribute on special teams, which Peterson doesn’t do.
