Mississippi school district needs bus drivers

MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - A school district in Mississippi is facing a major substitute bus driver shortage.

WTOK-TV reports the Lauderdale County School District’s driver shortage has been an issue for more than a year, but it’s getting worse. In fact, the principal and coach at West Lauderdale High School are filling in as bus drivers as a result.

The school district’s transportation department is doing all it can to recruit applicants, including printing ’help wanted’ flyers, making signs and posting on social media. Transportation Director Tim Moore says they’re in need of full and part-time substitute drivers. Qualified applicants must have a commercial Class B drivers’ license, an air braking endorsement and a passenger endorsement.
