CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has vetoed a bill on absentee voting.
Sununu on Friday vetoed a bill that would have allowed voters to vote by absentee ballot at a state or local election without a requirement that the voter be absent from the municipality or unable to vote in person for another reason.
Sununu wrote the state Constitution makes clear that absentee voting shall be permitted in cases of absence or physical disability. It does not allow for no-excuse absentee voting.
He said the bill would “erode an aspect of our unique process that has Hampshire leading the way when it comes to civic engagement.”
