President Trump hinted at good news when the government releases its jobs report Friday for the month of August.
“Really Good Jobs Numbers!” the president tweeted Thursday. It was an apparent reference to the closely guarded jobs report that the Labor Department releases at 8:30 a.m. on the first Friday of each month.
Employers added 164,000 jobs in July, with one forecast expecting the economy to show an additional 158,000 jobs created in August. The unemployment rate in July dropped to 3.9%.
The private payroll company ADP reported Thursday that August payrolls rose by 195,000.
U.S. markets were sharply higher in early trading Thursday, responding to the announcement of new trade talks scheduled between the U.S. and China. The Dow Jones Industrial average rose more than 400 points in early trading, or more than 1.6%.
In June 2018, Mr. Trump broke protocol by tweeting that a strong jobs report was coming, an hour before the Labor Department released the report.
