The dramatic summer holdout is over, and one of the best running backs in football has gotten paid.
The Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott agreed to a six-year, $90 million contract extension with $50 million guaranteed. That makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, reports from ESPN and NFL Network said Wednesday morning.

Elliott has held out from Dallas since late July, when he declined to report to training camp. He worked out in Cabo to prepare for the season, sometimes with the help of Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk.
Elliott, 24, had two years remaining on his rookie contract, so the extension keeps him in Dallas an additional six years through the 2026 season. He’s set to make $103 million in that eight-year span.
The former No. 4 overall draft pick in 2016 has had an eventful start to his career. He amassed 1,631 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie, missed a chunk of 2017 as a domestic violence suspension kept getting removed and reinstated on appeals, and won a second rushing title last year with 1,434 yards.
The Redskins face the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 for their home opener at FedEx Field.
