Warm fall days are heating up some school classrooms

BOSTON (AP) - Warm fall days are heating up school classrooms that don’t have access to air conditioning.

The Boston Herald reports that students and teachers in some schools have been sweltering in the face of unseasonable warm temperatures.

A history teacher at Boston Latin Academy, Jose Valenzuela, said every day last week temperatures in his classroom hovered around 80 degrees. He said one student fainted.

Boston Public Schools spokesman Dan O’Brien told the Herald the district has not gotten any reports about heat-related illness in students.

Only 33 of 125 Boston public schools have air conditioning, accord to O’Brien.

Boston Teachers Union President Jessica Tang said issues like temperature in school classrooms have been of concern in contract negotiations.
