DETROIT (AP) - Detroit is getting a new women’s soccer team.
Detroit City Football Club announced Saturday that it’ll launch a women’s team in 2020 to play in United Women’s Soccer, a second-tier league.
Sean Mann is the CEO of Detroit City FC and says that the organization has grown every year and adding a women’s team was the “right thing to do” for the club and supporters.
The women’s team will play home matches at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck and join the league’s Midwest Conference, which includes other teams in Michigan and Indiana.
United Women’s Soccer is a national league that began in 2015, below the National Women’s Soccer League. Its season runs May to July.
