CLEVELAND (AP) - Two corrections officers at a troubled county jail in Cleveland have been acquitted of some charges related to an assault on an inmate, but the jury failed to reach a verdict on other counts, prompting a mistrial.

Cleveland.com reports the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County jury on Wednesday acquitted corrections officer John Wilson of unlawful restraint and Cpl. Jason Jozwiak of falsification and interfering with civil rights charges.

Prosecutors say Wilson sprayed pepper foam on the inmate’s face and slammed him to the floor. Jozwiak was accused of preventing the inmate from receiving medical treatment.

Jurors couldn’t agree on felonious assault and civil rights charges against Wilson. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office says it will retry him.

An attorney says the officers’ union would continue defending Wilson if a second trial occurs.
